Transforming Dublin Airport is the name given by the DAA to its investment programme to deliver new and improved customer facilities at Dublin Airport and enable the airport to grow efficiently to more than 30 million passengers per annum. Between 2006 and the end of 2010, the DAA will have invested more than €1.2bn to address the congestion issues that had arisen at the airport due to strong traffic growth over the previous decade. The investment programme also has the objective of delivering sufficient capacity to attract additional aviation services to Dublin Airport into the future. The Transforming Programme has been funded by a combination of passenger charges, the DAA’s commercial revenues and borrowings. The DAA, while owned by the Irish Government, is a fully commercial organisation and receives no state support to fund its operations or capital investments. The Transforming Programme puts the passenger at the heart of our improvement plans. The initial five-year phase of the Programme delivered its first significant new passenger facilities in 2007 with the opening of a new lower ground floor, check-in zone, Area 14 in May of that year and the Pier D, boarding gate facility in October. A new €50m extension to the existing passenger terminal was opened to passenger acclaim in May 2009. Over the past three years approximately €150m has also been invested in new or upgraded internal airport roads; new power, communications, water and waste treatment systems; and in 80 acres of new aircraft parking stands and taxiways. This investment, while largely out of sight to visitors to the Airport, is nonetheless critical to its future development and growth. The key focus of the Programme is now on the completion of the airport’s second passenger terminal, T2 where preliminary construction work commenced in October 2007. The bulk of construction activity on T2 will end by the first week of May. Following a comprehensive programme of training, commissioning and systems trialling during the summer and autumn, the DAA looks forward to opening T2, your new terminal, for full operations in November. |
