The spacious boarding gate facility, known as Pier D, opened in October 2007 and provides passengers at Dublin Airport with a truly transformed experience of waiting in comfort to board their aircraft. Pier D has twelve boarding gates and can handle up to 10 million passengers per year in a bright, airy and very contemporary airport environment. This 15,000 sq m departures area represents a €120 million investment and is specifically used by short-haul aircraft requiring a fast turnaround on the ground before getting airborne again. Passengers awaiting their flights on the upper level of the pier can enjoy stunning views over the airfield to the Dublin mountains beyond and also the internal glazed artwork featuring images of some of Ireland’s most famous literary figures and extracts from their work. Pier D is linked to Terminal One via an elevated Skybridge, which provides passengers with a unique perspective on the original 1940s terminal building at Dublin Airport. The temporary boarding gate facility located at the end of Pier D and which preceded the new pier’s construction, will, by agreement with Fingal County Council, be taken down when T2 opens in November 2010. |
